Alaska Motorcycle Registration

Last Updated on March 22, 2018 by Jason Mason

The Alaska law requires all motorcycles, cars, vans, trucks, ATVs, boats, Trailers and snowmobiles to be registered. Typically, the process of motorcycle registration is similar to that of registering a motor vehicle. Your Alaska motorcycle registration will expire the last day of the month of registration.

Personalized Plates Available

The state requires you to mount one of your motorcycle license plates on your motorcycle. You can also apply for personalized license plates. These plates only come in standard yellow and blue. One good thing about personalized license plates is that you can order them online.

Online Motorcycle Registration

You can also register your motorcycle online, but first, you must make sure that the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) has your current mailing address on file. If your registration is about to expire and you have not received a renewal notice, you should check to confirm if the Alaska Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) have your current mailing address. You can contact the DMV if you get stuck and can’t update your current address online.

After You Renew Online

To register or renew your motorcycle registration online, you will need to have a valid credit card (Visa or MasterCard) to pay the registration or renewal fee. Once you submit your registration online, the DMV will mail your new tags to the address on file. If you fail to get new tags within two weeks, contact the Alaska DMV.

Motorcyclists in the Military

If you are a member of the U.S. military, there are additional rules you will need to follow when registering or renewing your registration.

Custom-built Motorcycles

If you have a homemade motorcycle, you will need to follow different process when registering or tilting your motorcycle. Also, you will be required to submit different documents when submitting your application. For more information, contact your local DMV office.
