The process of motorcycle registration for the first time in Louisiana, the registration process is similar to that of registering a car. Initial motorcycle titling and registration can be done at your local Office of Motor Vehicles or the dealership from which you bought your motorcycle.

If you purchase your motorcycle from a dealer, the dealer will handle all the paperwork for registration and titling on your behalf. The dealer will also collect all the applicable fees and taxes from you and pay them to the DMV on your behalf.

When you purchase a motorcycle from a private seller, you will handle all the paperwork for motorcycle registration and titling by yourself. You will need to download and fill out the Motorcycle Registration and Titling Application.

When you submit your application, make sure you also submit the following items, if applicable:

  • Notarized Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin (MSO).
  • Invoice from the dealer.
  • Completed Odometer Disclosure Statement.
  • Financing Statement or Security agreement.

Make sure you also present proof of insurance when you register your motorcycle in Louisiana.
