When buying or selling a new or used car in Minnesota, there is a lot to think of than just the price or type of car. - Obtain a copy of the original ticket from the county that issued it.
- Write a letter to the county informing them that the license plates are no longer yours. Include in your letter your driver’s license number and your new license plates.

When you purchase a vehicle from a private party in New Jersey, you will need to handle all the required paperwork for vehicle registration and titling on your behalf. You will need to obtain a signed-off title from the seller. You will also need to sign it, but first you have to ensure all the information in the title is correct. You will then need to take the title, proof of insurance and a sales tax form to your local New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission agency to register and title the vehicle in your name. Registration papers are not needed when buying or selling a vehicle in New Jersey. It is the responsibility of buyers to register their newly bought vehicles in their names.

You cannot purchase or sell a vehicle without a title. If you are a buyer, you need a title from the seller in order to register and title the vehicle in your name.
