About Jeep

Jeep, a legendary American car features an exciting history. Who could have thought a US Army manufactured car used for transportation could become the stalwart of the automotive industry. It all began when the American Bantam Car Company responded to an army request for a four-wheel reconnaissance car. It not only fulfilled the then army requirements but competes well with other car brands in the market today.

However, the army though that the company wouldn’t be able to supply the quantity needed on time, so Willy’s and Ford were taken into loop. They built a new vehicle on the same prototype designed by Bantam. During the war, jeeps were put into action through sawmilling, firefighting pumpers, field ambulances, tractors and more, thanks to its off-road capabilities.

Jeep was introduced into the civilian market in 1945 with CJ-2A, being the first model. CJ stands for Civilian Jeep and it replaces the MB model which is military Jeep. However, in 1952, Jeep was acquired by Kaiser after the unsuccessful introduction of Willys Aero. The merger gave rise to a new name ‘Willys Motor Company’ which was later named Kaiser-Jeep in 1963.

The year 1970 record the brand being purchased by American Motors Corporation (AMC). The first full sport Cherokee was manufactured and it recorded high sales. In a bid to acquire the popular Jeep with the resources, Chrysler Corporation bought it out from the AMC corporation in 1987. However, during Chrysler's challenges, he merges with Daimler-Benz in 1998 and SUVs and trucks were more focused on in that era. Daimler-Benz, however, sold ownership to Chrysler Group LLC.

Chrysler later joined with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee are still currently being produced. Despite the rough history and its numerous transfer of assets, this brand is still doing well until today.

All through the years of its operation, Jeep has been a cult favorite and it has seen great fan following. This was because they have not compromised on the aspects of quality and integrity in all this time.
