About Spyker

Spyker, officially ‘Spyker Cars’, is a supercar manufacturer founded and headquartered in the Netherlands. Originally the company produced aeroplanes as well. In 2011, following bankruptcy, the company was sold to North Street Capital, an American hedge fund. Spyker is a young company, having been founded only about two decades ago in 1999 by Dutch businessman Victor Muller and engineer Maarten de Brujin. Since 2000, the company has been producing state of the art sports cars. Before falling into the ownership of North Street Capital, Spyker was also briefly owned by Swedish car manufacturer Saab Automobiles in 2010. Today, the company is still in operation, having survived its bankruptcy, and continues to produce sports cars.

Among the first cars created by Spyker was the Spyker C8. It was first unveiled as a hand-made prototype under the name ‘Silvestris V8’. The C8 started rolling out in 2000 and is currently in its third generation, which is called the ‘Preliator Spyder’. The car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 2017. Spyker’s C8 has made several on-screen appearances; it has been featured in movies including Fast and Furious 6 and War, as well as in games including Gran Turismo, Forza, and Test Drive Unlimited.

Spyker manufactures and sells only a very limited number of cars each year. It has sold less than 300 cars from 2000 to 2010 and ran at a loss for much of the time period. In fact, it made its first profit since its inception in 2006. However, the low number of its sales are partly due to Spyker cars’ price tags- for example, the 2016 Preliator Spyder was introduced at a price of around $350,000. Today, Spyker has expanded globally and has dealers in a handful of prominent countries, including Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and the USA.
