You must register your new motorcycle in order to ride it on Connecticut roads. To get started on the process of motorcycle registration, you will need to bring the following items to the Connecticut DMV full-service or satellite office:
- The manufacturer’s certificate of origin which must be signed in the presence of the notary.
- Federal odometer statement.
- A bill of sale.
- Application for registration and certificate of title.
- Social Security number.
- Proof of insurance on the motorcycle.
- Proper ID.
Registering a Used Motorcycle
If you purchase a used motorcycle, you will need to bring the following items to the DMV satellite or full-service office for your motorcycle registration:
- The title certificate which must be signed over to you by the seller. The title certificate will not be required if the motorcycle is more than 20 years old.
- A VIN verification is required if the motorcycle was purchased from out-of-state. This must be done prior to registration, except for Enfield and Norwalk residents.
- A bill of sale.
- An application for registration and certificate of title.
- Social Security number.
- Proof of insurance on the motorcycle.
- Proper ID.
Delinquent Taxes and Other Violations
You will not be allowed to register your motorcycle if you have unpaid tickets or property tax. You will need to settle all these debts and show proof of payment to the DMV officer. If your registration privileges had been suspended, you will not be allowed to register your motorcycle.
Motorcycle Registration Fees
You will need to pay $42 motorcycle registration fee in order to register it for two years. You can pay this fee in cash, money order or by check at a full-service DMV office. Payment made by credit card is not accepted.
Registration Renewals
Connecticut DMV office will send you a registration renewal notice about 60 days before registration expiration date. You should then complete the renewal form and pay $42 registration renewal fee. Once you complete your application, send it to local DMV office through mail using the address below:

Registration renewal is only done through mail. If you fail to receive a registration notice in your mail, you can request one through email at [email protected].
Replacements
If your motorcycle registration papers are lost or misplaced, you can request a duplicate copy from a DMV full-service office or satellite office. You will need to pay $20 replacement fee. You will need to mail your request to the following address:

Be sure to include your motorcycle license plate number when you contact the DMV.
Temporary Registration
You will need to apply for temporary registration to enable you take your motorcycle for VIN inspection. You will need to pay $21 for a temporary registration. To apply for a temporary registration, you will need to bring the following documents to any full-service DMV branch:
- The title certificate which must be signed over to you by the seller. The title certificate will not be required if the motorcycle is more than 20 years old.
- A bill of sale.
- An application for registration and certificate of title.
- Social Security number.
- Proof of insurance on the motorcycle.
- Proper ID.
You will also need to pay sales tax when registering your motorcycle, unless your motorcycle is exempted from registration.
