About Subaru
Subaru is a Japanese company and one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. It manufactures a wide range of consumer vehicles, including sports cars, sedans, compact cars, and SUVs. Since its inception, the marque has produced a number of notable cars. These include the Subaru Impreza, Baja and the iconic 360. The brand sells its cars worldwide, including Europe and the USA where its cars have experienced increasing popularity. In 2017, it manufactured just above one million vehicles and earned a revenue of $30 million. Today, the company is aged 66 and is headquartered in the Ebisu district of Tokyo, Japan.
Subaru’s first car to roll off its production line was the Subaru 360, a small family car dubbed the ‘ladybug’. Though introduced in the US as well, it found real success in Japan where it managed to accumulate almost 400,000 sales between the late 1950s and 1970. Fast forward to the 90s and Subaru introduced a fan-favourite: the Subaru Impreza WPX rally car. The car participated in the World Rally Championships and won the tournament thrice in 1995, 1996, and 1997. The car offered several customizable options and, due to its speed and agility, was often compared to the Mitsibushi Lancer Evolution. Today, the car is still in production with the latest model being the 2018 WRX STI, of which only 150 units were manufactured.
In 1997, Subaru introduced the Forester SUV. The four-wheel-drive car achieved immense success and popularity and bagged several awards. In 2002, Subaru introduced the Baja, which was produced until 2006. The Baja, a four-wheel-drive light pick-up truck, was another fan-favourite and was marketed as a spacious family car. In addition to family-friendly vehicles, today Subaru focuses on producing environmentally-friendly cars as well. It produces several Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles, including the Forester and Legacy. For its efforts in eco-friendly cars, the company has earned several awards in the US.
