About Toyota
Toyota is the largest and most popular car manufacturer in the world. The company was founded in 1937 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. It has established local manufacturing factories in numerous countries across the world, including Canada, UK, Russia and the US. In other countries, it has established official dealerships. As of today, Toyota vehicles are sold in more than 170 countries. Though it has produced hundreds of cars since its inception, it is perhaps most notable for its Corolla model, which has been consistently ranked as the best selling car in the world with more than 44 million units sold to date.
Toyota was originally a loom manufacturer founded as Toyota Industries. After the sale of its loom patents to the British, the company expanded its efforts into the automobiles industry. Its first vehicles, produced in 1935, were branded ‘Toyoda’ under its founder’s name. However, in 1937 it would be renamed to Toyota in order to achieve a better stylistic touch. Following the Second World War, the first vehicles to be produced by Toyota were its Toyopet models. The Toyopet SA was the initial model to be released, which remained in production from 1947 till 1952. Soon after, Toyota would release the Crown, a luxury vehicle that is still in production.
Today, Toyota is renowned for the durability and quality of its vehicles. Notable Toyota sedans include the Prius, Camry, Mark II, and Mark X. The Prius is a hybrid electric vehicle that has attracted increasing popularity in recent years across the globe. The Hilux, on the other hand, is a pick-up truck that has been in production since 1968. Toyota produces several notable cars in the SUV division as well. Perhaps the most famous is the Land Cruiser, a large four-door SUV first introduced in 1951. Other models include the Land Cruiser variant Prado, the RAV4 sports SUV, and Fortuner.
