Last Updated on March 22, 2018 by Jason Mason

If you own a motorcycle in North Dakota, you must obtain motorcycle registration in order to legally ride it on North Dakota’s public roads. Registration is done with the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).

The Registering Process

After purchasing your motorcycle from the dealer or private party, you will need to fill out the North Dakota Application for Certificate of Title and Registration of Vehicle form. You can download this form the internet or pick a copy from your local DMV office.

After completing this form, you will need to take it to the nearest DMV office along with a money order or check for the payment of registration fees. You must also take with you documents to provide proof of your identity.

For more information on motorcycle registration process, fees and taxes, contact North Dakota Department of Transport’s Motor Vehicle Division through phone at (701) 328-2725.

The NDDOT will process your registration application and (if approved) they will send you a registration certificate and decal within three weeks.

Registration Renewal

When your motorcycle registration is about to expire, NDDOT will send you a renewal notification through mail. You can then decide to renew your registration through mail, online or at your local NDDOT office. Online renewal is very convenient and quick. You will need to pay renewal fees by credit card or debit card.

If you choose renewal by mail, your new registration certificate will be processed within three weeks. If you renew your registration online, you new certificate will arrive within a week.
